Dead Show/podcast for 5/23/08

Hello friends ! I've had a longstanding request to play a Bruce Hornsby show and while this *is* an atypical one, nevertheless its a good one.. his very first show with the Dead, 9/15/90 from Madison Square Garden in New York. We'll play the first set this week, and I think you'll agree its loaded with energy. Jerry really enjoyed playing with Bruce right from the start as is evident in this recording..

Grateful Dead Madison Square Garden New York , NY 9/15/90 - Saturday
One Touch Of Grey > Walkin' Blues ; Candyman ; Mama Tried > Mexicali Blues ; West L.A. Fadeaway ; When I Paint My Masterpiece ; Bird Song ; Box Of Rain

As always you can listen to the Deadpod here:

High energy show. Am I mistaken or does Weir's guitar sound fuller and richer than normal. Was that a function of any equipment change he had made at this time? It doesn't sound as tinny as it often does.

  2. Hi,

A request for the obscure 5/27/93 show with the Cassidy -> UJB -> Cassidy. I wonder if a SBD lurks somewhere...

  3. Hi,
I'm an independent radio producer and huge fan of the show. Inspiration moved me brightly today and I decided that it would be cool to do a documentary piece about a blind dead fan. The band obviously is one of the most loved but also I think one of the most unfairly criticized and misunderstood. I thought that, perhaps if someone who is blind and is very much involved with the audio around him/herself could explain and recount their love of the dead it may open some people's eyes (or ears) to the real beauty of the band. Professor (or anyone else) have you ever come across such a person? Thanks for your help.

  4. Hey Shuster, David Gans did the UJB-Cassidy-UJB thing once ages ago on the GD Hour so at least it's out there in SDB format.

What a treat to hear Bruce's first show with the band. It seems as if he got up to speed rather quickly! I always enjoy his piano and accordion work. Phil sounded great on the set closer, too.
