This week we get to hear the rest of that fine 1st set - and the entire 2nd set - from the classic performance of 5/4/77 at the Palladium in NYC., NY.
The first set ends with a fine and very well played Dancin' In the Streets, but the real meat of this show is the 2nd set, in my opinion. Here we have a monsterous 45 minute Terrapin->Playin'->Comes a Time->Playin that just will blow your socks off.
When the band finishes the Playin' reprise, the house lights come up and the show is over - there's nothing else they can add.. and I don't think anyone was complaining..
I think you'll agree....

wow. just got to the PLAYIN' on my walk to work, and before things melt into COMES A TIME, Jerry really reaches for Dark Star, some distinct notes in there - odd for '77. Gotta listen again...
ReplyDeleteThank you strongly for your weekly pods.

Great show, love the Playin, also the China Cat tease Bob inserts in Scarlet. Was this teased often in 77 before of the reemergence of China>Rider on 12/29?
ReplyDeleteOn another note, how bout something from early 73 or 74, great years kick started by great shows. 2/9 or 2/15/73 and 2/24/74 come to mind--all of which have great versions of China-Rider.
I love your show & think you're great!!
Such sweet, delicious candy for our ears! The singing and playing are so darn pure. And, the second set is simply loaded with monstrous tunes. Loved this one, will surely listen again very soon.
