This week we're treated to the second set of October 2nd, 1977 from Portland OR.
I think you'll find this to be a a real treat - a wonderful Samson kicks it off, followed by a nearly perfect Scarlet->Fire. I think you'll love what Garcia does here - especially in the transition!
The Playin' that follows becomes gloriously out there - I think you'll find Phil is really taking the lead here and in the great jams that follow - the Truckin' and Other One are really fabulous examples of this era of the Dead at its best..

I wanted to take a moment to thank all of you who made contributions during my pledge drive - once again I can only express my thanks and tell you that Deadheads are the kindest folks around.. I'll have those Egypt CD sets out to you as soon as I get them in from Rhino (and I'm back up and around)..
speaking of up and around, there won't be a Deadpod next week - I have to get some surgery done on my leg next week and know I won't be back in time for next Friday's show.. sorry about that.. hopefully I'll feel up to it for the week of the 24th...

Be well and thanks so much for picking us up!
Professor - After your visit to the hospital may the four winds blow you safely home. Thanks for sharing the music ...
ReplyDeleteThis has always been one of my favorite Scarlet/Fires. Clearly the band was in fine form that night. Get healthy as quickly as possible.
ReplyDeleteYou take your time Professor. Be well.
ReplyDeletePeace and good vibes!
Professor, will you be treating us to any Jerry and John Kahn this Thanksgiving? I'd especially like to hear a show I saw at the Ritz, NYC 1-27-86. It was crinkly.
ReplyDeleteNice to hear Keith playing some keyboards on this one (beyond the piano). Thank you!
ReplyDeleteOne of the best sets from them I've heard (and I've been through six years' worth of Deadpods). Just, wow. Amazing stuff.
ReplyDeleteAs someone else noted, I found Keith's use of keyboards to be notable and wonderfully different. It seemed like some sort of harpsichord-like effect at times?
5+ years after the fact, I hope that you enjoyed a full recovery from your surgery; and may you continue to Truck On for many more years to come.
