The laid back rhythms of '76 make for a perfect compliment to the hot weather as we explore a wonderful show from June 11th, 1976 at the Boston Music Hall in Boston MA. A very clean recording and sweet solos by Garcia highlight this set.
Love the pace of this Tennessee Jed.. Big River will definitely get you up after a sweet and sleepy Candyman.. you'll feel the power building in the Scarlet as the music sweeps you away. A pretty and soulful 'Looks Like Rain' follows. Garcia continues to create more beauty with his solos in the following 'Must Have Been the Roses'. I really enjoyed the 'Supplication' that follows..

Dead Show/podcast for 7/20/18
This week's Deadpod features the second set from the beautiful Greek Theater in Berkeley CA that was performed back on July 13th, 1984. While this show is most famous for the 'Dark Star' encore (preceded by a shooting star), the set itself is quite solid with some outstanding performances for the year. They begin with a 'Scarlet>Touch>Fire' that is high energy and punctuated by some great work by Brent on the keys and of course Jerry's dancing notes. A nice long segway leads into 'Touch' (albeit it does sound a bit 'off' to my ears); again a nice bouncy version.. again a somewhat odd transition into Fire, but once it gets rolling love the backbeat.. 'Man Smart, Woman Smarter' leads into a fine drums and space.
The post-drums setlist is highlighted by 'Stella Blue' and a very fine 'Sugar Magnolia'..
The Dark Star encore was the last time they played it until fall of 89..

There are times when it seems a burden to put the Deadpod out weekly, but then some kind soul reaches out and makes it worthwhile.. thank you my friends.
be well and at peace

Dead Show/podcast for 7/13/18
On this Friday the 13th I decided to bring you probably one of the most famous Friday the 13th shows the Grateful Dead performed - this one from Friday, July 13, 1984 at the Greek Theater in Berkeley CA. While the show is justifiably famous for the appearance of Dark Star in the 2nd set; I'm completionist enough to include the 1st set this week. All in all, this is a good 1st set and a fine example of early-to-mid 80s Dead. Always a beautiful place to see the band, the crowd is treated to a rocking 'Bertha->Greatest Story' to start the show. 'Dire Wolf' which follows is always a treat, and Bobby does a good job on 'C C Rider'.
There are solid versions of the rest of the tunes, with the possible exception of 'Dupree's' where Jerry gets a bit lost. :)

a short note on my logo.. after over 10 years of publishing the Deadpod, I was served a letter from Rhino/Warner Brothers/GDP informing me that my logo was an unauthorized use of Grateful Dead trademarks. Personally I don't get it, but I don't have the resources to fight it so I've had to remove the classic Deadpod stealie.. just so you know why it is fading away..

Dead Show/podcast for 7/6/18
For your post-July 4th enjoyment the Deadpod brings you the 2nd set from the Jai-Alai Fronton in Miami Florida on June 22nd, 1974. One of the great 'wall of sound' shows, this second set starts out strong with a wonderful 'China Cat Sunflower' into 'I Know You Rider'. A tight 'Me & My Uncle' and 'Ship of Fools' follow. The 'El Paso' is surprisingly hot. Then a long jammy 'Eyes of the World' opens up the horizon; the band eases into the pathos of 'Wharf Rat', then busts out a great 'Sugar Magnolia' to close the set. After a great show, the 'Johnny B. Goode' encore sends folks home happy and hungry for the next night's adventure.
