Dead Show/podcast for 4/15/11

On the heels of an acclaimed tour of east and south, Furthur has just announced dates for their summer tour. It seemed to me to be only fitting to feature the band this week for those of you who may not have been fortunate enough to catch them so far this year, as well as those of you lucky enough to have seen them. This week I'm going to feature music from two of their recent shows, first from a show in Pittsburgh, then from Phil Lesh's birthday show in New York City. I encourage you to visit where you can read about their tour plans, and purchase recordings of all their recent shows.

A tragedy at that Peterson Events Center show--a 19 year old man, Joseph Kimutis, fell to his death from a window of the arena. http://www.post-gazette.com/pg/11091/1136194-53.stm

First portion sounds AMAZING...Bob, Phil, the boys, and of course Sunshine all sound phenomenal! This band is TIGHT tonight. That was the first time I've heard Pride Of Cucamonga since listening to my old copy of a copy of a copy of From The Mars Hotel while still a teenager and relative newbie to Dead fandom...22 years ago, if not longer. Never cared much for it then; but, then again, I was young and had not quite developed the appreciation for music that I have now. I REALLY enjoyed hearing it just now, like seeing an old classmate from elementary school after so long...even though you weren't the closest of friends back then, you appreciate them so much more now than you ever did back then, as you're instantly transported back to a time that you recall with such fondness. Plus, live music is infinitely better than album cuts, so there's that. Listening to The Beatles set now, and digging it! Phil's vocals sounded great in both portions. Such a pleasant departure, Professor. Many thanks!
