Dead Show/podcast for 11/7/08

This week's Deadpod was suggested to me by a posting on a list server I belong to that claimed this show had "the best" Peggy O ever... now I'm not a believer in that sort of thing generally - too many wonderful versions of these songs to identify, in most cases, "the best" version of any of them.. but it did get me to pull this one out and give it a listen..I was pleased and hope you will be too .. 2nd set next week..

Grateful Dead Auditorium Theatre Chicago, IL 6/26/76 - Saturday
One The Promised Land [3:59] ; [1:17] ; Sugaree [9:27] % Cassidy [4:12] % Row Jimmy [9:48] % Mama Tried [2:43] Tennessee Jed [8:53] % Looks Like Rain [7:41] % Scarlet Begonias % Lazy Lightnin' [2:54] > Supplication [4:39] ; [1:33] ; Peggy-O [7:53] ; The Music Never Stopped [5:55]

You can listen to this week's Deadpod here:

Be well and thanks for picking us up!

Tough to beat the Englishtown Peggy-O, but it was a tune they tended to play consistently well.

Well I don't know.. tell us about your setup - computer/browser etc... How are you trying to download the podcasts?
If you're using firefox you should be able to right-click on the link and choose 'save link as' for example..

You can save these podcasts onto a cd if you do it as an mp3. I have a cd full of Deadshow podcasts in my car.

BTW, the Prof's bud may be right about that Peggy-O. Beautiful.

You can certainly burn any of the podcasts to an audio CD if you wish - they are ordinary MP3 files. The only problem is likely to be that the programs are too long to fit on an audio CD.

Audio CD are limited to 80 minutes, tops (usually 75). If you want an audio CD, you'll have to split the podcast MP3 into multiple parts. A great example of a program that does that is Fission by Rogue Amoeba (Mac only, but there must be some Windows tool for this as well).

Once the podcast is split up, use any ordinary CD burning tool to make audio CDs (Toast, Nero, iTunes, etc.)

Nestabob is right that they can easily be burned to an "MP3 CD", as long as your CD player can read that format.

Out of curiosity, what list server was that?

Professor,

Really, really enjoying what you put into this show- perfect combination of small talk (which always makes me nod and smile) and of course emphasis on the music- great job.

Alex - not really a listserve per se.. a private group of Dead fans who communicate via the web..

So my ipod just crashed with about 45 of your podcasts on it. I am devestated. Is there any way to reclaim those favorites? any help would be great. sbarker@bigskyfire.org

save the files to your hard drive (in firefox that's a right click - not sure about a Mac)..

Thank-you so much. This is my favorite site/resource on the internet.

I find it pretty rude when I read comments about shows arguing over which version of a song is better than another. It all comes down to personal experiences and in no case should a version of any song be put down.

Rock on Professor

Man, I love the sound of these '76 shows...so distinct. They got a little loose there at the end in TMNS; but, other than that, they were quite tight. The Peggy-O was a very nice interpretation. Overall, a great set list and well-played.
