Dead Show/podcast for 11/09/07

This week a new soundboard release of the first of the five "retirement" shows from the Winterland from October of 1974. These justly famous shows were of course immortalized on "The Grateful Dead Movie" but deserve to be enjoyed individually as much as possible. Phil's spectacular playing more than makes up for Donna's occasional off-key wailing ;).

Grateful Dead Winterland Arena San Francisco, CA 10/16/74 - Wednesday
Mexicali Blues ; It Must Have Been The Roses ; Beat It On Down The Line ; Scarlet Begonias ; Me And Bobby McGee ; Tennessee Jed ; Cumberland Blues ; Row Jimmy; Playing In The Band

This segment is what exists in soundboard format of the first set. I am very glad you enjoyed last week's complete show. I'll do it again - but am not sure that I could do so every week.. but keep your eyes open we'll do it again soon!

Dead Show/podcast for 11/02/07

This week I'm trying something crazy - this week's Deadpod is an entire, complete show from 1976. This is a *huge* file folks, and I hope that you are all able to listen to this and enjoy this really unique show. I'm doing this as a favor to one of the friends of the Deadpod who is running in this weekend's NYC Marathon, and hoped to get to hear a complete show. I've also had requests for a mid-70s show and a 'help->slip->Franklin's'.. well this show has an epic Franklin's so I really hope that all of you have the time and bandwidth to hear it all.. Thanks for your understanding and we'll see how this one goes - I couldn't possibly post something this large every week, but what the hell, let's see how it goes!! And Best of luck to you David, and anyone else in the Marathon!

This week we'll hear the remainder of the great show from June 26th, 1984 from the Merriweather Post Pavilion. There's even a 'Day Job' encore - it had been long enough that I'd heard one of these that I enjoyed it ;) I hope you'll enjoy this great set too..

I also want to sincerely thank those of you who've contributed during our Fall fundraising drive. It's not too late to join with these great friends who've contributed to keep the Deadpod coming each week - just click on the 'contribute now' button on the right hand side of the blog... Dead Show/podcast for 09/28/07

It took me a bit to decide what to bring you this week, but after I ran across this show I knew it was the right choice.. This is one of those classic live Dead sets from 1969, this one comes from Boulder CO, April 13th. It features everything you'd expect - great Pigpen raps, wild, far-out jamming and some magnificent moments from Garcia - most notably on the Dark Star and the Eleven. Personally, I'm always blown away by a really well-played and heartfelt Death Don't Have No Mercy - it ends the set I'm bringing you this week. I hope you enjoy it...
(note there are some anomalies - Lovelight cuts early, Doin' that Rag is cut at the start and the Dark Star has a splice.. still I think the outstanding quality more than makes up for them.... )

Grateful Dead Ballroom - University of Colorado Boulder, CO
Date 4/13/69 - Sunday
One [1:45:18 +] Turn On Your Love Light [24:55#] % Doin' That Rag [#4:18] ; [0:45] ; Good Morning Little Schoolgirl [8:09] ; [1:05] ; Morning Dew [11:02] [0:14] % Dark Star [24:01] > St. Stephen [7:50] > The Eleven [13:02] > Death Don't Have No Mercy [9:55]

First off a sincere thank you to all of you who passed along your warm and kind get well wishes to me this week. I was in the hospital because I had an aneurysm in my leg that blocked the blood flow pretty completely. They did a vein graft in there and while I'm still pretty gimpy, at least I'm not in the hospital so I'm thankful for that.
I wanted to get a show up this week, and I think you'll enjoy this one, which was just recently released in a complete form...

Dead Show/podcast for 07/06/07

One of my wonderful listeners wrote me to request this week's show and seeing as it is from the same great year for Dead music as the recently released Three from the Vault, I thought it would be a great listen for this week's deadpod. This show features a monster first set Dark Star as well as one of the all time great Not Fade Away->Goin' Down The Road Feelin' Bad->Not Fade Away jams.
